Defense makes plea offer in Arvin girl’s slaying

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The attorney representing a man charged with murder in the shooting death of a 10-year-old Arvin girl said he has extended a plea offer to prosecutors.

Jesse Whitten on Thursday asked to postpone the preliminary hearing for his client, Jesus Everardo Rodriguez, to see if the case could be resolved. He said prosecutors were considering the offer, the details of which he did not disclose in court.

Judge John W. Lua moved the preliminary hearing to Oct. 3 after confirming there was no objection by prosecutors.

Rodriguez was 17 at the time of shooting. His case was transferred to adult court earlier this year.

On the night of July 17, 2021, Rodriguez and others drove from Lamont to Arvin to hunt rival gang members, prosecutors said.
