BPD to conduct DUI checkpoint Aug. 23

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department announced it will be conducting a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, Aug. 23.

According to BPD, the checkpoint will be held between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 2 a.m., at an undisclosed location.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and or drug impairment and checking drivers for proper licensing while temporarily delaying motorists.

When necessary, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate drivers suspected of drug-impaired driving with not just illegal narcotics, but also prescription drugs, marijuana or over-the-counter medications.

The department says crashes involving impaired drivers can be reduced by 20% when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
