Cyclist dies in California state recreation area after crash

(FOX40.COM) — A cyclist died on Saturday in the Auburn State Recreation Area after crashing their bike, according to CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit.

The crash occurred along the Connector Trail, which is classified as a single-track trail for more experienced downhill bike riders.

Personnel from CAL FIRE and the Placer County Fire Department responded to the medical emergency.

First responders learned on their way to the crash that CPR was being conducted on the rider who has been described as a 45-year-old man.

Due to difficult and lengthy access to the patient, first responders began cutting a path to reduce a mile of travel during the rapid extraction.

The man would die at 11:17 a.m. and the rescue turned into a recovery. The rider’s body was transported to the coroner and the remaining party was escorted to the sheriff’s office Chaplin before returning to their cars.
