Shooting suspect arrested after leading police on chase through Bakersfield streets: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 21-year-old man was arrested after his alleged involvement a shooting in northeast Bakersfield on Friday and a pursuit from northeast Bakersfield to northwest Bakersfield.

Officers were dispatched to the area of University Park on University Avenue in northeast Bakersfield Friday around 7:15 p.m. for multiple reports of a shooting.

Police say a witness told the dispatcher the suspect fled in a gray Mercedes vehicle. The vehicle was found by Air 1 on westbound Highway 178, near Oswell Street. The suspect refused to stop.

Officers deployed Stop Sticks, a device used for tire deflation, on 24th Street in the downtown area, according to police.

The pursuit then continued to northwest Bakersfield to the area of Brimhall Road and Calloway Drive, where the suspect surrendered, according to the police department.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, evading and other firearm-related charges, according to police.
