Bakersfield College students attend Stanford’s summer premedical program

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Steven Carrillo, a Biology student from Bakersfield College, recently participated in the Stanford Summer Community College Premedical Program (SSCCPP), which concludes on Aug 3.

This program, hosted by Stanford Medicine’s Office of Diversity in Medical Education (ODME), celebrates 25 years of offering premedical education for undergraduates, including community college students.

The six-week program is designed for California community college students interested in careers as physicians and physician assistants.

Carrillo was among 21 students selected for the 2024 cohort. Participants engaged in traditional classes, medical school admissions workshops, and science-based classes such as human anatomy and molecular cellular biology. They also shadowed physicians, engaged in scholarly research on health disparities, and presented their own research projects.
