Bakersfield ranks in top 100 most expensive cities to rent an apartment

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ( KGET ) — Bakersfield is the 74th most expensive place to rent out of the 100 most populated cities, according to the Zumper National Rent Report .

Zumper analyzed more than 1 million active listings across the country and the national rent index showed the median one-bedroom rent is up 1.6% annually to $1,534, while two-bedrooms climbed 2.7% to $1,915. New York tops the list, showing the rent for a one-bedroom spiked to $4,500 this August reaching an all-time high.

The price of one bedroom apartments in Bakersfield remained at $1,100 last month, while two bedroom apartments grew 2.9% to $1,440.

According to Zillow, the complex located in the heart of Bakersfield at 19th and R streets has a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment for $625 a month.

If you travel just about a quarter of a mile, you’ll find the most expensive 1 bedroom apartment at 20th and P streets, priced at $1,975 for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment at 679 square feet.
