BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man faces 12 years in prison after pleading no contest to all charges — including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated — filed in connection with a crash that killed two people last year.
Luis Angel Esquivel-Muro, 49, entered the no contest pleas Wednesday morning, according to court records. Sentencing is scheduled for next month.

He pleaded no contest to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, two counts of DUI causing bodily injury and driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI.
On Aug. 17, 2023, Esquivel-Muro drove a pickup that collided with a car at the intersection of California and Chester avenues, police said.
Peter Preciado and Justina Marie Alston, the driver and passenger of the car, were fatally injured. Police arrested Esquivel-Muro after determining he’d been driving while under the influence of alcohol.
