Congressman Adam Schiff calls to expand farm worker benefits at 2024 UFW convention in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — California Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) called for expanding benefits for farm works at the 2024 United Farm Workers Convention Saturday.

The Democratic candidate running for U.S. Senate also spoke to UFW members about improving working conditions and boosting wages.

The three-day event kicked off Friday, Sept., 20, which featured dance performances, guest speakers and more.

Convention speakers also honored the legacy of Cesar Chavez’s son, Paul Chavez, and former UFW president Arturo S. Rodriguez.

The UFW began in the 1960s by Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, Larry Itliong, and other organizers as the nation’s first and largest farm worker’s union. UFW currently represents nearly 7,000 workers across California.
