3-alarm fire contained west of Meadows Field Airport: KCFD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield and Kern County firefighters worked to contain an outside fire Saturday morning and saved two commercial buildings in the process.

Firefighters responded to reports of a grass fire Sept. 28 at about 2:30 a.m., and realized the flames had erupted into a commercial area with the potential to damage two 40,000 square-foot buildings. The fire was at the intersection of Quinn Road and Lencioni Avenue, just west of Meadows Field Airport.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the flames were consuming vehicles, poly rope, fiber optic cables and plastics stored outside, forcing a second and third alarm fire response. A total of 42 KCFD firefighters and 21 BFD firefighters were tapping multiple hydrants and pulling hundreds of feet worth of hose to put out the flames and save the two buildings from any damage.

Firefighters used K12 saws to gain access and heavy equipment from the KCFD Heavy Equipment Yard to separate burning piles of debris.

The cause of this fire is currently under investigation. There have been no reported injuries.
