2 alleged gang members arrested after pursuit ends in Oildale

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A chase of a reported stolen vehicle that started in McFarland early Monday, ended in Oildale with the arrest of two alleged gang members suspected of an armed robbery, officials said.

The McFarland Police Department said officers were following a reported stolen vehicle onto Highway 99 just after 12:30 a.m. Officials said the officers tried to pull over the vehicle in Bakersfield near Olive Drive, but the vehicle and four people inside continued and the officers pursued the vehicle.

The pursuit eventually ended in the 100 block of Hopkins Avenue and the four inside the vehicle ran from law enforcement. McFarland police said officers located two of the suspects — a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man. Two others got away, officials said.

According to McFarland police, the four people inside were suspects of an armed robbery being investigated by police in Bakersfield.

The 19-year-old was identified as Ezra Cartwright and was booked into the Lerdo jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, obstruction and a warrant of gang participation.
