Police activity backs up traffic on Hwy 178 near Mt Vernon exit

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Traffic was at a standstill Monday evening along Highway 178 because of a pursuit that ended near the Mount Vernon exit.

A Bakersfield Police Department spokesperson said officers were called to the area for a report of someone making threats to harm themselves and others. The person was placed into custody, officials said.

Officers were involved in a pursuit in the area and it ended near the Mount Vernon exit at around 5 p.m. Multiple callers to 17 News reported traffic being backed in eastbound and westbound lanes.
