CSUB brings awareness to Sikh migration with events

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Cal State Bakersfield is set to host events on Tuesday and Wednesday nights to bring awareness to the Sikh community in Bakersfield with a presentation, panel and book signing at the university’s library.

The event will feature a book signing with David Yarnold. Organizers say Yarnold will be signing copies of his book “The Geography of Hope: Real-Life Stories of Optimists Mapping a Better Future.”

Officials with the university say the book discusses the importance of mapping, data and technology in expanding opportunity. One of the chapters in the book discusses Bakersfield’s push to adopt the Unity Map.

The book signing and “The Geography of Hope” panel are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 9. The panel is scheduled to be held in the Dezember Reading Room of the Walter W. Stiern Library.

If you would like the attend this panel officials say to park in the Lot M parking lot.

Prior to the panel and book signing a history presentation will be held in the university’s library on Tuesday.
