Hearing postponed for woman charged in foster son’s death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A preliminary hearing in the case of a woman accused of killing her 3-year-old foster son has been postponed, court records show. She’s due back in court early next year to set a new date.

Margaret Eichhorst, 32, is charged with first-degree murder and assault on a child under 8 resulting in death. On Tuesday, a status conference was set for Jan. 23, records show.

Eichhorst is being held without bail.

Deputies were called Feb. 9 to the 500 block of El Tejon Avenue and met Eichhorst, the reporting party, who told them foster son Alejandro Perez Jr. wasn’t breathing, according to court filings.

The boy had bruises and cuts to his face and body, the filings say. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy determined Alejandro died from blunt force trauma to his head, the filings say. Internal injuries documented during the autopsy included bleeding in his chest — caused by a small tear to his heart — as well as bleeding near his bladder and to his brain.
