BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ( KGET ) — Two men were found dead with gunshot wounds at a South Bakersfield neighborhood, and a neighbor says the men were veterans — and they were brothers.
“I feel guilty,” said Patricia Stephens. “I feel like I could’ve done something to help. Something more to help.”
Kern Deputies discovered the incident on Cresson Court Tuesday around 4 p.m., where Stephens has lived for 37 years. She says one of the men found dead was her neighbor for more than two decades, and was caring for his younger brother.
“They had a really hard year,” said Stephens. “Their health had been failing.”

Investigators don’t believe there are any other suspects. They told 17 News they have not ruled out the possibility it was a murder-suicide.
Stephens says the younger brother suffered from a serious mental health disorder.
“If there’s anything you can do to reach out and get help if you have a neighbor in this shape — I wish I would’ve,” said Stephens.
