BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The community near Linnell Way and Brahma Street will tell you they’ve been waiting a long time for a new park in their neighborhood.
Now the wait is over, and the ribbon’s been cut. It’s time for the community to enjoy.
The Linnell-Brahma Park used to be a five-acre construction site. The only equipment here now is not for working adults; it’s for playing kids.
A five-acre playground for little ones to enjoy.
“It’s good, no more dirt flying around, no more trash around the neighborhood,” said Jesus Acero, father of three. “We can wash our cars and it will last longer now.”
This new park, Bakersfield’s 65th, comes with plenty of amenities.
“We have two playground areas, a 2-to-5-year-old and a 5-to-12-year-old [area],” said Fidel Gonzalez, park construction and facilities planner for the Recreation and Parks Department. “We have two sand volleyball courts…at the north end we have two half basketball courts.”
There’s even a gym area so that the bigger kids can pack on some muscle while they play…a gym area with a sit-up machine this reporter struggled with.
