Dozens of firefighters battle warehouse fire in southeast Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield and Kern County fire departments are battling a two-alarm structure fire in southeast Bakersfield Saturday.

At about 9:46 a.m., multiple firefighters were dispatched to reports of a structure fire at 99 Washington Street and E. Brundage Lane. The first KCFD units that arrived on scene discovered two 10,000 square foot warehouses completely engulfed and called a second alarm.

Jon Drucker, Public Information Officer with KCFD says the air quality will be affected but there are no toxins being placed in the air. Road closures are in place for incident operations.

Drucker says inside the building is plastic irrigation drip material that is burning and was what produced the thick, black smoke.

Firefighters main priority was stopping the spread of fire and defending the threatened nearby warehouses. The fire has been contained to the two warehouses that were initially engulfed, according to Drucker.

This is an ongoing incident and firefighters will be on scene well through the night.
