BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Flags that were stolen with a trailer belonging to the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Foundation have been recovered.
Those 1,000 flags are part of the event at the Park at River Walk every Memorial Day weekend. They disappeared last week after the trailer they were in was stolen from a lot on Belle Terrace, near West High School.

The estimated value of the flags and and trailer is put at $15,000. The trailer was recovered this week when an unidentified person — an “unsuspecting” purchaser of the trailer — tried to register it with the DMV. That kicked off an investigation that led to the discovery late Wednesday afternoon on Eucalyptus Drive and Dennison Lane.
“This has been tough for rotary and the community to think that something like this could happen,” Denise Haynes of the rotary club said. “I know the person who stole the trailer had no idea what the trailer meant, and it’s not of fiscal value […] but it’s the emotional value of that trailer and the thousand flags event. That is the real recuperation here, of that flags and that emotion.”
