Firefighters contain Kernville blaze after propane tanks explode

KERNVILLE, California ( MyCaliforniaNews.com ) — A residential fire in Kernville on Sunday morning led to a dramatic scene as propane tanks exploded, but firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it spread further. The incident, reported around 9:30 a.m., saw a home engulfed in flames and nearby grass catching fire, according to the Kern County Fire Department.Residents of Kernville and the Lake Isabella area alerted the Kern County Emergency Communication Center to a rapidly expanding smoke column. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home approximately 50% engulfed in flames. Despite the hazardous conditions created by exploding propane tanks, crews from the lake area, along with support from Glennville and Inyokern stations, successfully knocked down the structure fire and contained the grass fire, preventing it from threatening surrounding homes.An off-duty Kern County firefighter also responded to the scene, demonstrating the department’s commitment to community safety. “One of the greatest attributes of Kern County firefighters is that they do not see helping others as merely a duty when wearing their uniforms,” stated the source.The cause of the fire remains undetermined, but no injuries were reported. However, three adults, two dogs, and six puppies were displaced. The residents were alerted to the fire by their dog and evacuated safely. The Kern County Fire Department emphasized the importance of having working smoke alarms in homes, noting that every second counts in such emergencies.
