Shafter police utilize electric bikes to combat fentanyl use in city streets

SHAFTER, Calif. (KGET) — The Shafter Police Department is using state funding to patrol the city and combat fentanyl in a unique way coming into the new year.

After state funding for fentanyl use prevention, outreach and enforcement was approved by Assemblywoman Dr. Jasmeet Bains in July 2024, the Shafter Police Department announced a portion of the funds were used on electric bikes for police bike operations throughout the city.

As you can see from the photos above posted to the Shafter PD’s Facebook page, officers are already out in the city streets and parks patrolling.
