BPD: Animal cruelty investigation underway in Bakersfield after video surfaces online

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — On March 14, 2025, the City of Bakersfield Animal Control Unit received multiple reports from concerned citizens after a video surfaced on social media showing possible animal cruelty at a residence in the 1000 block of 33rd Street.

Officers from the Bakersfield Police Department and Animal Control responded to the residence and launched an investigation. An adult male was cited for animal cruelty, while an adult female was cited for animal neglect.

Animal Control officers identified a dog believed to be the same one depicted in the video. The dog was seized and will undergo a medical evaluation. If necessary, it will receive care at the City of Bakersfield Animal Care Center. A second dog, which appeared to be in good health, was also taken into protective custody…
