BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Assemblyman Carl DeMaio has introduced a new bill, AB 897, aimed at strengthening property rights and reducing the number of squatters in California.
The proposed legislation seeks to provide landlords with more authority to evict squatters by defining unlawful squatting, creating an arrest process for offenders, and requiring certification of documentation presented by squatters to avoid eviction.
