Winds up to 150 mph ripped across Palisades Tahoe early Monday as an early spring storm brought National Weather Service warnings of severe turbulence over parts of California and Nevada.
A weather balloon launched from Reno at 5 a.m. Monday measured winds in excess of 170 mph at roughly 33,000 feet. This powerful jet stream is aiding in favorable conditions for heavy mountain snow , with up to 5 feet potentially piling up in the Sierra Nevada through Tuesday evening.
