Coroner ID’s human remains found near Kern County Soccer Park, determines death as homicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office succeeded in identifying the human remains discovered in northeast Bakersfield.

Landis William Ornellas Wilkins III, 39, of Whittier was found as unidentified human remains at about 6:55 p.m. on March 15. The remains were located in the 9400 block of Alfred Harrell Highway.

Bakersfield Police officers responded to the scene and found the remains of Wilkins in the foothills southwest of the soccer park, according to BPD. The department previously said the circumstances surrounding the discovery had been suspicious.

A postmortem examination determined the cause of death was by a gunshot wound, the coroner’s office said. The manner of death was determined to be homicide…
