After months of calling brokers and insurers last summer, Lisa McDonald finally found a company willing to insure her house , a single-story on a quiet street in El Dorado Hills.
SageSure, a New Jersey-based insurer, offered her a policy for roughly $3,000 a year, whereas the few alternatives she could find quoted her at between $6,800 and $9,000. McDonald signed, bought the house, and sold the Martinez home she had owned for 30 years.
