Inmate’s escape attempt from sheriff’s bus adds new charge, inmate injured

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — An inmate’s escape attempt from a transportation bus on Wednesday has resulted in an additional charge and injuries, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 14, 2025, at approximately 12:50 p.m., deputies from the Metro Court Holding Facility and Transportation Unit at 1415 Truxtun Avenue were in the process of loading inmates onto a Kern County Sheriff’s Office transportation bus. During this process, inmate Maminder Singh managed to bypass the bus door and hide himself by shimmying under the bus.

As the bus departed the area, deputies heard screams and promptly stopped to investigate. Singh was discovered clinging to the undercarriage of the bus and was subsequently pulled out by deputies. He sustained minor to moderate injuries and received medical treatment…
