Man pleads no contest to voluntary manslaughter in grisly stabbing death of Bakersfield attorney

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Seven-and-a-half years after the grisly stabbing death of a Bakersfield attorney who suffered wounds so deep he was nearly decapitated, his killer has accepted a plea deal that will result in a 24-year prison term.

Nicholas Quintana, 26, on Tuesday pleaded no contest to a charge of voluntary manslaughter in the 2017 killing of Marcos Vargas. He previously was found guilty of a weapons charge during a trial four years ago at which jurors deadlocked on murder and robbery charges.
