Planned burns in east Bakersfield aim to reduce wildfire risk near 178 and 184 highways

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County firefighters will conduct a planned training burn exercise three times in the next two weeks – June 4th, 6th, and 8th at the southeast corner of Highway 178 and Highway 184, said the Kern County Fire Department.

The planned “Wildland Hot Drills” will consist of live fires in dry grass, “with a focus on developing essential skills in our newer firefighters,” stated officials.

KCFD said the exercise will provide the benefit of increasing public safety due to the location chosen. Once burned, the area will have no further dry grass that poses a wildlife threat to local homes…
