Bakersfield police investigate reported stolen car found submerged during welfare check

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police responded to a welfare check on a vehicle that ended up in a southeast Bakersfield canal Tuesday afternoon, but no one was found inside, according to an official.

Officers responded at around 5:30 p.m. to a canal near East Panama Lane and Cottonwood Road. After they arrived, they discovered a vehicle in the canal that matched the description for a welfare check. No body or occupants were found inside the vehicle.
