1-year-old dies after being left in hot car while mother was in medical spa: Bakersfield PD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 1-year-old boy died after he and a 2-year-old boy were left in a vehicle for two hours while their mother was at a medical spa, according to Bakersfield police.

The Bakersfield Police Department said were called Sunday afternoon for an unresponsive child in the 10 block of South Real Road. Officers discovered the two children were left inside a vehicle for two hours as temperatures outside reached over 100 degrees.

The two children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but the 1-year-old boy was pronounced dead. The 2-year-old was reported stable and was placed in protective custody.

The children’s mother — identified as Maya Hernandez, 20 — was booked into the Lerdo jail on two counts of willful child cruelty and a count of involuntary manslaughter, according to inmate records…
