Competency hearing scheduled for Ray St standoff suspect

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of shooting at sheriff’s SWAT team members during an hourslong standoff last month in Oildale will be examined by a psychologist to see if he’s mentally competent to stand trial.

Keith Juilfs Jr., 37, is being held without bail on charges that include multiple counts of attempted murder and assault with a gun on a peace officer.

He’s due back in court July 17, when the results of his exam will be discussed.

If found incompetent, Juilfs would be sent to a state hospital where doctors would work to restore him to competency. Criminal proceedings would be suspended…
