Firefighters battle multiple blazes over Fourth of July weekend in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Firefighters in Southwest Bakersfield responded to a two-alarm structure fire this morning, marking just one of several incidents over the Fourth of July weekend. The holiday proved to be a busy period for fire departments, with numerous structure fires reported within the first 24 hours.

Chris Bowles, Battalion Chief of the Bakersfield Fire Department, emphasized the importance of adhering to new regulations. “Now the firework uses is terminated, so no more fireworks be discharged in the city or the county,” said Bowles.

As Independence Day celebrations unfolded in Kern County, fire crews were dispatched throughout the night and into Saturday morning to tackle various fires. Officials urged residents to handle leftover fireworks with caution. “If you do have any spent fireworks from last night, you’ll make sure those are properly cooled. Put them in a bucket, put them in some water, make sure they’re cooled thoroughly before you put them into a trash can where they potentially could ignite the trash,” advised fire officials…
