BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The family of Daniel Landeros, a local activist, is seeking justice after he was fatally shot at Yokuts Park on September 13. Landeros was with a friend when officers responded to reports of a shooting around 11 p.m. and found him dead.
Lisa Cruz, Landeros’ younger sister, believes his death may have been premeditated. “That was my family. You know, I’m supposed to protect him, but he was taken from me,” she said.
Court documents allege that 27-year-old Fredi Rivera yelled homophobic slurs at Landeros and his friend, leading to a verbal exchange that allegedly prompted Rivera to shoot Landeros. Cruz recounted receiving conflicting stories about the events leading to her brother’s murder…
