Bakersfield police identify officer involved in SW Bakersfield Walmart shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department has identified the officer involved in the July 4 shooting at the Walmart on Gosford Road as Christopher Cornjejo. Cornjejo, who has been with the department since December 12, 2024, has been placed on routine administrative leave.

The suspect, Deashanay Holmes, was in stable condition after being shot during the incident. According to Sergeant Eric Celedon of the Bakersfield Police Department, officers initially responded to a report of an assault inside the store. The alleged assault victim directed officers to Holmes, who had moved outside.
