Kern Behavioral Health to work with KCSO, BPD to assist with behavioral health calls

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Several law enforcement agencies in Kern County are expected to start assisting behavioral and mental health calls with the help of Kern Behavioral Health and Recovery Services starting this month.

BHRS is asking the Kern County Board of Supervisors to approve proposals that will allow BHRS to help the Kern County Sheriff’s Office and the Bakersfield Police Department respond to behavioral health calls.

According to the agenda, BHRS will assign two full-time employees in KCSO’s 911 communications center to assist with behavioral health calls.

Those employees would be tasked with accepting all behavioral health calls transferred from KCSO and choosing the best response for each call. They would connect the caller with the outpatient team, a treatment provider and/or the crisis hotline, the agenda says…
