Bakersfield launches AI-powered instant permitting system

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield has become the first city in the nation to implement an AI-powered instant permitting system, marking a significant advancement for homeowners, businesses, and contractors.

The new system, developed by San Francisco-based technology company Symbium, aims to streamline the permitting process.

Leila Banijamali, CEO of Symbium, explained how the technology works.

“A contractor can configure their project online using Symbium, just going to symbium.com, configuring their project in Bakersfield, and then Symbium will, in the background, perform all the compliance checks and issue the permit instantly,” she said.

The service costs between $25 to $50 to upload plans to the system, in addition to a separate city fee. However, the city of Bakersfield plans to lower its costs due to the new system’s implementation. The traditional permitting process will still be available for those who prefer it…
