Maricopa seeks to increase city employees’ salary above minimum wage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The city of Maricopa is looking to increase salaries for its full-time city employees, most of whom are currently paid California’s minimum wage, according to the Maricopa City Council agenda.

The agenda said the city employs six people in total, four of them being full-time employees. Three of the four full-time employees are currently being paid $16.50 per hour, which is the state minimum wage.

“The current minimum wage for fast food workers here in California is $20 per hour which is considerably more than most city employee salaries,” the agenda said. “Council should consider the feasibility of modifying the current employee wage structure with the goal of paying city workers a salary that is at least somewhat competitive with other city employees in Kern County.”
