‘Bakersfield stands with you’: Flood Ministries hosts vigil in downtown Bakersfield for victims of Texas floods

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The victims of the Texas floods were honored Saturday night at a candlelight vigil at the Liberty Bell in downtown Bakersfield.

Flood Ministries hosted the vigil in solidarity with the Texas communities as they navigate through the tragedy. The community gathered to share words, share prayer, but most importantly, people gathered to share their heartbreak.

“The recent floods in Texas have caused unfathomable heartbreak,” Kari Disque, Engagement Manager and Grant Writer for Flood Ministries. “Innocent lives were lost, including young children who were defenseless in the face of disaster. Searches are still underway, and the families and communities directly affected are reeling from the devastation.”

“We come together in grief, in solidarity, in remembrance,” said Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh. “To all of you who are grieving: Bakersfield stands with you. Bakersfield feels your pain. Your pain is our pain.”…
