‘You can’t have a cop on every corner’: Bakersfield adding more FLOCK cameras to aid in policing efforts

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — FLOCK cameras all over Bakersfield are changing policing tactics. This new technology can track a stolen car or a criminal blocks away from where a crime occurred.Bakersfield has roughly 114 active FLOCK cameras throughout the city, and another 18 will be installed over the coming months. Some cameras record live feeds of activity on strategically selected streets and public places, while others capture license plates.

Powered by solar and recording 24/7, FLOCK cameras focus on reports of crime. The cameras help police quickly identify suspects; locate vehicles; and coordinate a faster, appropriate and safer officer response.

“Overall, I think it’s really gonna enhance and be a major shift in how policing is done in this country,” said Tommy Tunson, a former Arvin police chief and criminal justice expert.
