California, Kern County prepare for scorching temperatures, wildfire risks during heat wave

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — With a blazing heat wave expected to sweep through much of California starting this weekend, the state and Kern County are taking preemptive measures to address concerns of heightened wildfire risks.

This weekend’s heat wave is expected to bring near-record temperatures to Southern California, as well as here in Kern County.

“So what you’ll see throughout the state and here in Kern County, we have a lot of extra resources that are being assembled and pre-positioned so that if there were to be an emergency, there’s a larger amount of resources and staff available quickly to start fighting that fire,” said Kern County Fire Capt.
