BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office confirmed that a 1-year-old baby from Visalia died from heat stroke after being left unattended in a vehicle in late June in Bakersfield.
The incident happened on Sunday, June 29, 2025, when officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child in the 10 block of South Real Road.
When officers arrived, they and ambulance personnel discovered that a 1-year-old boy, identified as Amillio Gutierrez, and a 2-year-old boy had been left in a vehicle for over two hours. Authorities said the children’s mother, Maya Hernandez, 20, was inside a nearby medical spa undergoing a cosmetic procedure at the time. Court documents said she was getting lip filler done.
