Planet Fitness seeks to appeal $284k fees imposed by city of Bakersfield, calling it ‘unconstitutional’

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A fitness center on Stockdale Highway is set to appeal traffic impact fees imposed on the business by the city of Bakersfield, calling the fees an “unconstitutional taking” of the center’s property.

Planet Fitness, which opened its location at 11425 Stockdale Highway on Aug. 15, is trying to appeal the city’s decision to impose traffic impact fees on the business.

In 2018, the city approved a planned development review for the shopping center in the corner of Buena Vista Road and Stockdale Highway and calculated the initial traffic impact fees, the agenda said. These fees are meant to help fund the construction or expansion of a site when new development happens.
