A California man has been sentenced to a significant prison term after pleading guilty to drug offenses. Jacob Paul Arjona, 32, from Bakersfield, was sentenced to 17 years and 7 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy, according to an announcement by U.S. District Judge Mary S. Scriven. The case, stemming from an incident on October 11, 2023, saw Arjona delivering 50 pounds of methamphetamine in Florida.
During an operation that turned out to be Arjona’s downfall, officers observed him engage in the drug handoff with co-defendant Mario Espino in Holiday, Florida. Subsequently, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputies interrupted Arjona’s departure, as he departed the scene in a rideshare vehicle. A search yielded over $110,000 in drug proceeds. This incident, according to the Justice Department, was part of a larger conspiracy involving more than 500 kilograms of methamphetamine intended for the Middle District of Florida.
The conviction was a result of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
