Trial set for mother accused of leaving children in hot car, resulting in baby’s death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A jury trial date has been set in September for the woman accused of leaving her two children in a hot car, with one baby dying.

The incident happened on Sunday, June 29, 2025, when officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child in the 10 block of South Real Road.

When officers arrived, they and ambulance personnel discovered that a 1-year-old Amillio Gutierrez and his 2-year-old brother had been left in a vehicle for over two hours. Authorities said the children’s mother, Maya Hernandez, was inside a nearby medical spa undergoing a cosmetic procedure at the time.
