CHP warns against impaired driving ahead of long holiday weekend

BAKERSFIELD — As the long weekend approaches, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is urging drivers to prioritize safety and avoid impaired driving. Officer DC Williams demonstrated the use of “fatal vision goggles” to simulate the effects of being twice the legal alcohol limit, which is 0.08 percent. The goggles, set at 0.16 percent, highlight the dangers of impaired driving.

Williams explained, “These goggles right here are going to simulate if you’re twice the legal limit.” He added that the goggles help illustrate the challenges of multitasking while impaired, such as maintaining lane position and reacting to road conditions.

The CHP is emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior, especially during the holiday enforcement period starting at 6 p.m. tonight and continuing until 7 p.m. Monday. Officers will be on the lookout for aggressive and impaired drivers.
