Passenger killed in crash on Hwy 99 after driver allegedly falls asleep: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman died in a crash that occurred Tuesday morning on Highway 99, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Bakersfield Area units responded to a report of a person on the shoulder waving at passing vehicles on northbound Highway 99, north of David Road, at around 3:10 a.m.

According to investigators, a man, 64, was driving a 2000 Honda Accord north on Highway 99, north of David Road, at about 70 mph. The driver is believed to have fallen asleep, causing the vehicle to veer onto the east shoulder.
