Murder conviction overturned for Bakersfield man who stabbed grandmother

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An appeals court has overturned the murder conviction of a Bakersfield man who fatally stabbed his grandmother, finding the trial judge erred by reading the jury an instruction on his sanity at the time of the attack.

Juan Andres Valdez can be retried if the prosecution chooses, says a ruling issued Tuesday by a three-judge panel of the 5th District Court of Appeal.
