Bakersfield faces jail bed shortage as crime persists

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield’s Ward 4 City Councilman Bob Smith addressed the Kern County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, highlighting a critical issue: the lack of available jail beds for inmates.

Smith emphasized the challenges faced by law enforcement in apprehending repeat offenders, only to see them released back onto the streets within hours.

“Our law enforcement personnel work hard to apprehend the repeat offenders in our community, only to have them back in the streets the same day,” said Smith.
