Jury finds aggravating factors true in Sergio Venegas case, sentencing scheduled next month

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A day after finding him guilty of kidnapping and attempting to sexually assault a woman in 2022, jurors on Thursday found all aggravating factors in the case against Sergio Venegas to be true.

Among the aggravating factors — circumstances that lead to a lengthier sentence — found true were that the crime involved great violence or cruelty, a weapon was used and the victim was particularly vulnerable.

After taking their verdicts, Judge David Zulfa excused the jury and set a sentencing hearing for Oct. 10…
