BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Downed power lines prompted a sudden closure of a portion of Highway 178 between Bakersfield and the Kern River Valley which could last through the weekend.
The initial closure began at around 4:30 p.m. after downed power lines blocked lanes of Highway 178 just east of the mouth of the canyon.

The closure is in place between the mouth of the canyon in Bakersfield through Borel Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Information Page, Southern California Edison cleared the power lines from the road but the utility will need to keep the closure in place — possibly until Monday morning…
