Hanford, CA – Central California residents should prepare for the possibility of thunderstorms later this week, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford reports an increased chance of lightning in several regions beginning Thursday.
According to the NWS, a surge of moisture is expected to bring a 10 to 15 percent chance of thunderstorms across the Kern Desert and Kern Mountains, as well as higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada, on Thursday, September 18, and Friday, September 19.
The forecast also highlights a 5 to 10 percent chance of thunderstorms spreading into the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Foothills during the same period. Forecasters caution that while overall storm coverage may be limited, any lightning could spark new wildfires given the region’s dry vegetation…
